Join North Brooklyn Parks Alliance and Billion Oyster Project for a “Hidden Rivers” Walk using a historic watershed map created by urban ecologist Eymund Diegel. The walk will begin at Transmitter Park, visit Bushwick Inlet, and continue on to McCarren Park. Participants will discuss water quality, storm water, sewage, ecological & industrial history, and modern community activism.

Strangeways has come together with friends, Greenpoint Fish & Lobster, Billion Oyster Project and The Newtown Creek Alliance to bring you “A Lovely Seafood Dinner”, in support of the rehabilitation of New York Harbor.
Through classical, pop and folk music, five musicians will explore and enjoy the role that waterways play in our lives and imaginations — with several songs saluting the oyster.
Every June, Billion Oyster Project hosts a Student Symposium, which is an opportunity for students across New York City to showcase their research, learning, and projects related to their local waterways. This year, we are excited to accept a wide variety of projects related to New York Harbor. Projects may include, but are not limited to: art, design, engineering, scientific research, advocacy, environmental justice, recorded interviews, and more. We welcome students to think outside the box for projects this year!

In the spirit of fostering a safe, inclusive and equitable environment, the Billion Oyster Project is proud to present an intersectional environmentalism panel in partnership with the Harbor Estuary Program to explore how diverse groups use green and blue spaces in their disciplines and why safety and access to those spaces is vital. This panel will feature three unique environmental professionals who will discuss the ideas presented in environmental access through their creative fields and in conjunction with the Safe Space Agreement.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are useful tools in data analysis, allowing people to answer specific questions about where things have happened, are happening, or might happen in the future. In this free virtual session, teachers will explore how their students can use ArcGIS Online to investigate the question, where in NY Harbor could future oyster restoration take place?
