The Pier 101 EcoDock is a home base for Billion Oyster Project operations, and an outdoor classroom for Urban Assembly New York Harbor School students. The Oyster Research Stations suspended from Pier 101 offer a glimpse into our oyster restoration and hands-on learning programming happening across the five boroughs. They also enable students and staff to monitor NY Harbor water quality, biodiversity, oyster health, and more.

The EcoDock is used as an outdoor classroom — great for collaboration between the school’s Career & Technical Education programs. Vessel Operations students crew the safety boats that take Professional Diving students to work on the reef. In past years, student divers have helped monitor oysters grown by the Aquaculture students, along with oyster reef structures created by Marine Systems Technology students. Students from the Ocean Engineering Program and the Marine Biology and Research Programs have collaborated with divers to help maintain and monitor the equipment, and pull up oysters for Aquaculture students to analyze.
